Who therapeutic supports are for

Therapy that makes a real difference

For Participants

For Families & Carers
Goals that actually get reached.

Families often feel frustrated when therapy happens in a clinic but does not carry over into daily life. GenCare therapeutic supports are designed for real-world transfer — we work with support workers, teachers and carers to make sure skills stick beyond the session.

What we do

Therapeutic supports available at GenCare

Most requested
Occupational Therapy

OT assessment and therapy focused on daily living skills, fine motor development, sensory processing, home modification recommendations and assistive technology prescription.

Speech Pathology

Communication, social skills, AAC (alternative and augmentative communication), literacy and swallowing support — delivered in the environments where communication happens.

Psychology

Mental health assessment and treatment, behaviour management, anxiety and mood disorders, trauma-informed support and capacity building through psychological strategies.

Physiotherapy

Movement, mobility, pain management, hydrotherapy and exercise programs designed to maximise physical function and participation in daily activities.

Dietetics

Nutritional assessment and planning for NDIS participants — including dysphagia management, tube feeding, weight management and dietary support for complex health conditions.

Social Work

Psychosocial assessment, crisis support, carer wellbeing, family systems work and navigating the complex intersection of NDIS, health and community services.

For Families & Carers

Therapy that follows your child into real life.

The gap between clinic-based therapy and real-world function is one of the biggest frustrations for NDIS families. Skills learned in a clinic do not always transfer home. GenCare therapists work in the environments where skills need to apply — your home, your child's school, the local playground. We also train your support workers and carers to reinforce therapy strategies between sessions, so progress compounds instead of resetting every week.

For Participants

Your goals. Your pace. Your progress.

Therapeutic supports at GenCare are not a fixed program — they are a plan built around your goals. Whether you want to communicate more confidently, move more freely, cook independently or manage your mental health, your therapist builds a program that tracks directly against what you want to achieve. Your NDIS plan renewal evidence is built-in.

Getting started

From enquiry to first session in 4 steps

01
Goals discussion

We start with your NDIS goals — what you want to achieve, what skills you want to build, what independence looks like for you. Your therapy plan is built around this.

02
Therapist matching

We match you with a therapist based on your goals, disability type, communication preferences and delivery preference (home, clinic or telehealth).

03
Initial assessment

Your therapist conducts a baseline assessment — understanding your current functional levels and setting measurable goals for the therapy program.

04
Ongoing therapy and review

Regular sessions with documented progress, NDIS-ready reports and regular reviews to ensure therapy continues to align with your goals and plan.

Why GenCare

Therapy built around your NDIS goals

Too much therapy is delivered in isolation — one therapist, one room, no connection to the participant's broader support team or real-world goals. GenCare therapeutic supports are embedded in the participant's full support picture. We collaborate with support coordinators, support workers and families to ensure therapy strategies are used and reinforced across every setting.

Therapeutic Supports — OT

Our OT from GenCare didn't just work with my son in a room — she came to his school, trained his teacher aide and worked with his support worker at home too. Within six months he was independently getting his own breakfast and managing his morning routine. That is the kind of real-world outcome we had been trying to reach for three years with other providers.

FAQs

Therapeutic supports questions answered

Covering therapy types, funding, delivery options and plan review reports.

NDIS Therapeutic Supports are allied health and therapy services funded under the Capacity Building — Improved Daily Living category of your NDIS plan. They include occupational therapy, speech pathology, psychology, physiotherapy, dietetics and other therapies designed to build skills and independence related to your disability.
GenCare provides occupational therapy, speech pathology, psychology, physiotherapy, dietetics and social work under NDIS therapeutic supports. Therapists work individually with participants to build skills, increase independence and achieve the goals in their NDIS plan.
GenCare therapeutic supports can be delivered in your home, in the community (school, workplace, community spaces), in a clinic setting or via telehealth. The delivery location is chosen based on where the therapy will have the most real-world impact for you.
Therapeutic supports are funded under the Capacity Building — Improved Daily Living category. The NDIS sets the support budget based on the type and frequency of therapy required. If you are unsure whether your plan includes therapy funding, check with your Support Coordinator or contact GenCare — we can help you understand your funding.
Yes. GenCare therapists provide NDIS-compatible progress reports and functional assessment reports for plan reviews. These are written to NDIS standards and document functional changes against your goals — supporting evidence-based plan review applications.
Yes. GenCare therapeutic supports are designed to complement your full support team. We regularly collaborate with support workers, support coordinators, schools, housing providers and medical practitioners to ensure therapy strategies are implemented consistently across all settings.
Yes. GenCare offers telehealth delivery for many therapeutic supports — particularly psychology, social work and some OT services. Telehealth is especially useful for participants in regional areas or those with transport limitations. Ask us about telehealth options when you enquire.
Session frequency depends on your NDIS funding, your goals and the type of therapy. Most participants receive sessions weekly or fortnightly. Your therapist will recommend a session schedule at your initial assessment and review this regularly based on your progress and plan budget.
Capacity building is the NDIS principle of using therapy funding to increase your skills and independence over time — rather than just maintaining current function. GenCare therapeutic supports are explicitly designed with capacity building in mind: every therapy program has goals aimed at increasing what you can do independently.
Support Coordinators can refer participants via our referral form at /make-a-referral or by calling 1300-247-788. We respond within 1 business day and will match an appropriate therapist based on the participant's goals, disability type and location.
